About Tim

You can read the latest things I've been working on over on my blog at http://www.timdavies.org.uk where you can also find details of the work I do as an independent action researcher, trainer and consultant in youth engagement and social technologies.

Latest Activity

Hi I have just joined the Action Learning Set and look forward to sharing experience and ideas. With this in mind, I would welcome any comments from colleagues on our recently built, interactive section for Members of Youth Parliament. See http://ww…

Profile Information

Which organisation do you work for?
Practical Participation
Are you a full member of the LGIU Participation and Social Network Site action learning set?
Yes
What do you hope to gain from participating?
I'm keen to discover with Action Learning Set members which of the many possibilities of Social Network Sites for engagement are the ones which really fit in with a goal of empowering young people - and which are the best to put effort into within a local government setting.

I'm sure I will learn stacks of new stuff about how different local authorities approach youth participation and technology - and I hope to hear and learn from loads of great projects, pilots and ideas from across the country

I'm also hoping for a bit of action learning about how to facilitate and take part in an action learning set.
What do you hope to contribute?
A lot of time spent researching, experimenting with and exploring both youth participation, and social media/social network sites.

Links into networks of other people who can support the Action Learning Set and practice in each local authority area.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself...
When I get away from keyboards and screens I'm usually found in the kitchen cooking organic veggie nosh

2010 - What are your social network participation projects for the coming year?

Happy New Year!

It's 2010. Six months since the end of the first Action Learning Set on youth participation, and lots has been going on across the country.

What have you been up to recently in the use of social media for youth engagement, or in wider contexts in your local authority? What have you got planned for 2010?

Action Learning Set Report Update

A quick update on the report due out from the Action Learning Set...

The draft was sent to LGIU in July & is currently going through their internal systems. I was hoping it would be out by the end of August - but still waiting for final proof reading etc.

I've captured as much as I can of the wider learning from the Action Learning Set online here.

Applications to extend your Ning network

A development that might be of interest to everyone who has been exploring Ning as a platform for youth participation: you can now add a selection of third-party applications that integrate tightly with your network.

Ning has had the capacity to add 'Open Social' applications for a while - but these tended to sit on users own pages, rather than integrating tightly with the network as a new feature for everyone to use. Now wit… Continue

Re your comment Tim; - Yeah I think Ning is great and I've used it a lot. Particularly good when you need moderation of content but strangely you can moderate everything except a forum. I've set up many combo Ning-WordPress sites which is a useful combo. I've also been looking at alternatives to Ning (just in case) If I ever get the time I want to explore Kick apps and I've just installed Boonex Dolphin on a server. Need more time time time

Hey Tim, just set up a ning site for children in care council workers but can't get rid of the ads down the right hand side. Noticing that we don't have ads on networked participation i'm wondering how i can go about getting rid of them?!
thank you,
Joy :)
